Ok so I'm not saying that I'm super popular on youtube or anything like that. 520 subs doesn't make me some kind of youtube goddess but I like to think I am pretty observant and I feel that 6 years of watching beauty gurus succeed and 3 months of making my own videos I have come to realize that there are the RIGHT ways of making fans and then there are the WRONG ways.
1. SUB4SUB- (agreeing to subscribe a channel if they sub yours as well)
DON'T do it!! Ok sure it's a quick way to get subscribers but its also a fast track to haters and remember, they can unsubscribe just as fast as they subscribe. Think about it, would you rather have subscribers who subscribe because they like your videos and want to see more? Or someone who just subscribed to you so their subscriber count goes up? The whole point of subscribing is for people to remember channels they like and get updates when new videos are uploaded. (Ps odds are the person you swapped subs with will probably see these updates as a reminder to unsubscribe later)
2. Don't Spam Other People's Channels- Don't be that girl (or guy) that comments successful channels with "Hey! I have a channel too! Go check it out and subscribe!!" or something along those lines hoping that that channels fans will suddenly jump ship. Not only will it annoy that channels owner but it will make you look needy and desperate (and nobody wants that!).
3. Stay Positive!- This step is very important! If you're looking for more subscribers do NOT post negative comments on other peoples videos. Not only will you upset that person but there fans will be no fans of yours. Not to mention you will set an image for yourself as a cyber bully and jerk. This goes for hitting dislike as well. Hitting dislike on a video that isn't bad so that person gets discouraged is NOT nice! I shouldn't even have to say this but I've seen it a TON on videos like contest entries. Girls feel like they have a better chance if they dislike other peoples videos. Don't do it! Remember you aren't competing with anyone. Support other peoples channels, there is more then enough room on the internet!
4. Shout Outs- Don't ever give someone a shout out and then expect them to return the favor (without talking to them about it first). Also, mentioning someone in your video is very generous and does help your image but do this with caution. Don't make a shout out unless your ready to be swamped with people begging for one also. Play it fair. Don't promise someone a shout out if you're not ready to fulfill it. That's bad image.
5. Patience- Don't get discouraged if it doesn't seem like your subscriber count is going up. It's not common for fame to come over night (unless you're rebecca black) but that kind of fame is fleeting. Make videos because you enjoy them and if others like them too? That's just a plus!
6. Be Yourself- I know I know. It sounds cheesy but I swear it works! Nobody wants to see an exact copy of somebody they're already subscribed to. What's the point? Be yourself and bring something new to the table. Remember that nobody has your face or your personality. You're a one of a kind and if you embrace that others will too.
7. Video Quality- Maybe your not getting subscribers because your potential fans can't see you or hear you! You don't need a fancy hd camera and sound system. Just speak loudly and clearly and film in a spot with good lighting. The cheapest and best lighting there is? The sun! Natural lighting works wonders.
